How can we reduce the global cost of the licenses of design softwares like Creo, Catia, NX, and others?

In the industry, 3D graphics became essential in the working methods: from the design office to project supervision, maintenance and even marketing, 3D data can be found at all levels. Very often, these data are viewed by all those services using the design softwares that were used to create them. And the licenses of these softwares have a substantial cost. It’s normal given their nature. But are they necessary for people who don’t produce CAD data? Then let’s see together which solutions can balance the rentability of these tools and their uses.

1 – Restrict those licenses to the design office

Clearly, all the jobs related to product design or part of the design office need a CAD software. For these people, you have to keep those licenses. However, for many lines of work that gravitate around, technical writers for instance, it may be wise to revise the attribution of those licenses.

To do so, don’t hesitate to ask all the users (design office excluded) how they use the software. You’ll realize many of them mainly perform visualization and analysis tasks, or even only exports.

The complexity of these softwares makes them hard to use for the uninitiated. Supposedly simple tasks may take much more time than expected because of this. In some cases, it happens that two people must be mobilized (the CAD expert and the technical writer, for instance) to perform a simple task.
We should also consider that these softwares take up a lot of resources, and must run on powerful and costly computers.

2 – Prefer 3D viewer licenses over design softwares for certain jobs

So, with an adapted 3D viewer, all the different businesses are autonomous when they need to retrieve data (the design office no longer performs these tasks) and each can focus on his job.
Financially:
It won’t be a surprise: the price of the licenses is much lower than that of design softwares. We can even say it’s… incomparable.

The amount of investments in IT also gets reduced: these tools need less resources than a CAD software. It won’t be necessary to invest in so much computing power. For instance, 3D Juump Ace runs on a standard computer.

3 – Finally, don’t hesitate to subscribe to softwares on the various app stores

Today, various stores propose subscriptions depending on what you need. You don’t have to commit for a year. These options are very interesting for occasional projects, as you can stop your subscription right after your project is finished. You can better manage your budget this way, since you’re free to stop the subscription anytime.

To go further, don’t hesitate to discover our 3D viewer: 3D Juump Ace, a free version is available.

3D Juump Ace is also available without commitment on the Microsoft store.
